Zeyad Kadur, Ibrahim's uncle, described the family's ordeal as a horrific nightmare that only ended when his parents could finally embrace him. Upon his release, the teenager required immediate medical intervention for severe weight loss, exhaustion, and a scabies infection contracted during his confinement. The family, who reside in Florida, are now seeking privacy to help the teen recover from the trauma of being imprisoned during his 16th birthday.
While the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other supporters celebrated the homecoming, they emphasized that his survival does not excuse the conditions he faced. Advocacy groups are now demanding that the U.S. State Department conduct a formal investigation into the treatment of the American citizen. They argue that the United States must hold Israeli officials accountable rather than continuing to provide military aid without conditions, noting that hundreds of other children remain held in the military system.
