Three Killed in Targeted Shooting at San Diego Mosque

Two teenage gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, killing three men before taking their own lives. The attack, which targeted the county’s largest mosque and an adjacent school, is currently being investigated by federal authorities as a hate crime against the local Muslim community.

Three Killed in Targeted Shooting at San Diego Mosque

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl confirmed that officers arrived at the Clairemont facility at 11:43 a.m. One of the victims, a security guard identified as Amin Abdullah, was instrumental in preventing further casualties as the center prepared for afternoon prayers. Students and staff were evacuated safely, according to Imam Taha Hassane, the center's director.

Investigators discovered anti-Islamic materials inside the suspects' vehicle and noted that one of the weapons used in the attack bore the inscription "hate speech." While the 19 and 17-year-old perpetrators died from self-inflicted wounds, the incident has drawn sharp condemnation from lawmakers and civil rights groups, who labeled the violence a consequence of rising bigotry and unchecked Islamophobia.
