Coalition of 95 Groups Challenges GOP Push to Roll Back Clean Air Rules

These resolutions target four specific Clean Air Act waivers that allow states to enforce stricter standards for greenhouse gas emissions from passenger vehicles and small off-road engines like garden equipment.

Proponents of the letter emphasize that the automotive industry has already been complying with these standards for years, making the legislative push a wasteful and harmful distraction. According to the coalition, the existing regulations provide critical health benefits, noting that fine particulate matter from transportation is linked to 20,000 premature deaths annually. With more than 152 million Americans already living in areas with unhealthy pollution levels, the signatories contend that invalidating these waivers would disproportionately harm low-income communities and families already struggling with rising living costs.
