Majority of Democrats Now Label Israel's Gaza Campaign a Genocide

A day after President Joe Biden spoke of the moral necessity to prevent mass slaughter, new data reveals a deepening rift within his own party. A survey conducted by Zeteo and Data for Progress shows that 56% of Democratic voters now believe Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

The poll of 1,265 U.S. voters, taken between April 26 and 29, highlights a significant disconnect between the administration's policy and its core voting base. Beyond the specific characterization of the conflict, 54% of respondents support suspending U.S. arms sales to Israel until the blockade on humanitarian aid is lifted—a move that would align with Section 620I of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. Furthermore, 7 in 10 voters across the political spectrum now support a permanent cease-fire.

This survey arrives alongside ongoing campus protests and follows a period of intense scrutiny regarding U.S. military support. While the White House maintains that the Israel Defense Forces are taking necessary precautions to minimize civilian harm, the political fallout continues to manifest in primary election results. In Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, tens of thousands of voters have cast "uncommitted" ballots to signal their opposition to the current strategy. Strategist Nadia Rahman noted that these figures underscore a Democratic establishment that remains increasingly out of touch with its constituents on the Gaza crisis.
