Judge Blocks Trump Name Restoration at Kennedy Center

Despite the board’s argument that signage declaring the building "renovated and restored by President Donald J. Trump" served as recognition rather than a memorial, the court found the intent clear. Cooper emphasized that the board’s resolution directly violated both a federal statute and a previous injunction.

Trump responded to the decision via social media, claiming the center is in a "virtual state of collapse" and warning that the venue is "destined to doom" without his name displayed. However, Judge Cooper dismissed the board’s assertion that the rebranding would revitalize the center’s finances. Evidence presented to the court indicated that previous efforts to associate the Trump name with the property coincided with a drop in ticket sales, a decline in contributions, and the departure of the Washington National Opera after a 50-year residency.
