Oxfam: Israel Violates ICJ Order by Obstructing Gaza Aid

Two months after the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must ensure humanitarian access to Gaza, conditions on the ground have deteriorated further. A new report from Oxfam accuses the Israeli government of actively hindering aid efforts through arbitrary inspections, rejected shipments, and restricted border crossings.

Oxfam: Israel Violates ICJ Order by Obstructing Gaza Aid

The report, titled Inflicting Unprecedented Suffering and Destruction, details how Israel’s policies exacerbate a man-made famine. According to Oxfam, the number of aid trucks entering Gaza in February plummeted by 44% compared to January. Supplies such as oxygen cylinders, medical incubators, and sanitation equipment remain stockpiled at Al Arish, just 40 kilometers from the border, after being denied entry by Israeli authorities.

Sally Abi Khalil, Oxfam’s regional director, stated that Israel is failing to take necessary measures to prevent genocide, noting that international reliance on airdrops and maritime corridors signals a failure to challenge Israel’s obstruction of more effective land-based delivery routes. This assessment aligns with observations from U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Chris Van Hollen, who recently documented miles of trucks backed up at crossings while residents faced severe food and water shortages.

With 1.1 million people now experiencing catastrophic hunger, aid organizations warn that the window to avert a full-scale famine is closing. Partners on the ground, including Juzoor for Health and Social Development, report a surge in child malnutrition. Oxfam maintains that without an immediate and permanent cease-fire, current humanitarian efforts will remain insufficient to address the scale of the crisis.
