Federal Judge Orders Release of Georgetown Scholar from ICE Detention

Hassan Ahmad, counsel for Khan Suri, contends that his client was targeted due to his familial connection to Ahmed Yousef, a former adviser to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Yousef has previously voiced public criticism of the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. In a recent op-ed, Khan Suri described his detention as a response to his marriage and his vocal support for the Palestinian cause, framing his experience as that of a political prisoner. Despite the court's decision, the broader implications of these federal detentions continue to draw scrutiny from academic and civil rights communities.
