Democrats Open Probe into Border Czar Tom Homan Over Bribery Allegations

Congressional Democrats are demanding answers regarding the Department of Justice’s decision to terminate an investigation into Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar. The move follows reports that federal agents allegedly captured video evidence of Homan accepting a $50,000 cash bribe from undercover operatives posing as businessmen.

Democrats Open Probe into Border Czar Tom Homan Over Bribery Allegations

Lawmakers on the Senate and House Judiciary Committees sent formal letters this week to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, citing grave concerns over the apparent suppression of evidence. The allegations center on claims that Homan accepted the payment in exchange for facilitating future border enforcement contracts. Democrats are now calling for the preservation of all investigative files, including audio and video recordings of the encounter.

While the administration maintains that Homan engaged in no illegal activity, the Democratic caucus faces significant procedural hurdles. Lacking a majority in the Senate, the party currently holds no subpoena power to force the disclosure of the requested materials. Analysts suggest that investigators may pivot toward interviewing career DOJ and FBI officials who were briefed on the case during the previous administration to circumvent current roadblocks. Representative Eric Swalwell noted that the push for transparency is intended to create an evidentiary trail for future oversight, warning that the inquiry will intensify should the political landscape shift in 2026.
