Otter.ai Secures $320 Million to Fuel Enterprise Expansion

By securing $320 million in non-equity financing from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, Otter.ai is bypassing traditional venture dilution to aggressively scale its enterprise footprint. CEO Sam Liang intends to leverage this capital to triple sales budgets and deepen the platform's reach across international markets.

The capital injection, structured as repayable debt with interest, signals a shift in strategy for the transcription company as it pivots from its consumer-focused roots toward high-value corporate accounts. Liang confirmed that the company aims to at least double its enterprise revenue next year, banking on the high retention rates inherent in collaborative team environments. While Otter currently counts users within 86% of Fortune 500 companies, the goal is to convert this organic usage into formal, paid subscriptions.

To support this growth, the company is ramping up its sales force and expanding localization efforts for languages including Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin. Otter claims a strong value proposition, citing internal surveys and asset manager analysis that suggest users save four hours weekly, yielding a return of $10 for every $1 spent on the service. Although an initial public offering remains on the long-term horizon, leadership is prioritizing sustained enterprise revenue growth before pursuing a transition to public markets.
